GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
certification
The BUSINESS ANALYSIS competence development and certification program was developed in cooperation with ESI International – a world leader in project management training – and George Washington University (GW) School of Business and Public Management, an elite school and one of the strongest establishments in the US as far as management education is concerned. The participants of MT&DC trainings have an opportunity to complete two levels of George Washington University certification and gain consecutively the following certificates: Associate’s Certificate in Business Analysis and Master’s Certificate in Business Analysis.
Moreover, the curriculum is consistent with A Guide to the Buisness Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK® Guide), which makes it easier for the participants to prepare for International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) exam and earn the international credential of a Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP®).
Each training course in the certification path may also be completed as a discrete unit.
For companies operating in such a dynamic environment, the role of business analysis in gaining a competitive advantage cannot be overestimated . Business analysts help organizations analyze and redesign the operating processes and find the best solution to do it faster, cheaper and better.
Management teams are increasingly aware that such responsible tasks should not be performed by people selected at random. In order to be competitive nowadays, investing in valuable knowledge backed with international certificates is a must. Industry certificates that are recognized in the community are also becoming an indispensable element of building one’s position on the job market and they translate directly into expedited promotions.

George Washington University certification requirements
LEVEL I - Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis
The Associate’s Certificate in Business Analysis requires the completion of three courses within two years. Completion of at least one of the two foundation courses, i.e. BA – Business Analysis or HGDUR – How to Gather and Document User Requirements is compulsory. Subsequent courses should be selected from among remaining business analysis trainings. Also, the path may include one project management training course of your choice.
Based on our experience we suggest that you complete both foundation courses. The third module selected should develop a competence area that is most advantageous for your job responsibilities.
The participants of training courses at the Associate level will acquire practical knowledge of business analysis according to the global standards of International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). They will get familiar with generic business analysis terminology coupled with tools and techniques that are necessary to define and document requirements. The level is designed for all that need solid foundations in practical understanding of the application of business analysis methods across all phases of a project. In class, the participants develop and reinforce key skills that every business analyst needs to possess.
LEVEL II - Master's Certificate in Business Analysis
The Master's Certificate in Business Analysis requires the completion of seven courses within four years: five compulsory courses in business analysis and two project management training courses. We recommend that you take LPM – Leadership in Project Management as one of the project management modules. Having hard, technical skills is only a partial success for a business analyst. “Soft skills” necessary to lead teams, communicate with non-technical staff and other stakeholders are equally important.
The participants of the Master program augment their knowledge and skills in business analysis with specialized areas of process modeling management, use case modeling and testing techniques. They also acquire basic knowledge of project management, which significantly improves project scope definition and control, as well as identification of possible risks.
The Master certification path is designed for business analysts and other individuals that perform analyses and strive to become fully professional in their work. The program is also meant for managers that lead teams of experts dealing with business analysis and testing.
Program structure
An indisputable advantage of George Washington University certification program is considerable freedom in the selection of courses to match individual needs of companies and their employees. Complete integration of business analysis and project management training paths allows the participants to develop their competence by including courses from both areas in their training programs. The program structure is predicated on the fact that the two domains are merging to a large extent, while the synergy and mutual understanding between business analysts and project managers is instrumental in achieving project success. Moreover, it facilitates competence development and certification for individuals combining business analysis and project coordination on the job.
The chart of competence development and certification in business analysis presented here is based on some premises related to the planning of a training path.
The knowledge and skills acquired in foundation courses (BA and HGDUR) are used in subsequent trainings in the area of business analysis, which is worth noting when you plan your training path. Starting the program with BA – Business Analysis course is recommended for beginners in the field of business analysis. Information on any additional restrictions on the sequence of selected courses can be found in respective descriptions of individual modules.
Reminder! Each training from the certification path, although logically homogenous with other modules, can be completed as a separate, single course. At the end of each of the listed courses the participants are entitled to gain the George Washington University certificate which confirms you have successfully completed the specific course.
